Training: May-June 2013

Pennsylvania Healthcare Personnel Vaccination Summits: May-June 2013

Overview
Every winter, influenza causes substantial illness and deaths from complicated illness. The 2012/13 influenza season was, by most estimates, the most severe season we have seen in Pennsylvania. Influenza vaccination can limit the spread and severity of influenza. Unfortunately, some 20 to 40% of healthcare personnel still do not get annual influenza vaccination.

Last year (in 2012), the Pennsylvania Department of Health (PaDOH), in collaboration with the PA immunization coalition and the Center for Vaccine Ethics and Policy held several seminars across Pennsylvania to encourage influenza vaccination among health care personnel. These trainings were well received and contributed to improvements in vaccine coverage among Pennsylvania healthcare workers.

2013 seminars will showcase best practices and resources for improving influenza vaccination among healthcare personnel as well as address questions surrounding influenza vaccination of healthcare personnel, including but not limited to working with unions, addressing legal issues and NHSN reporting, CMS requirements and Joint commission standards. The seminars are ideal for infection control practitioners, employee health, physicians, PA-C’s, CRNP’s, Infectious Disease Physicians, administrators and first responders. All trainings will run from 09:00am to 12:00pm.There is no fee to attend but registration is required. Space is limited; please register with persons noted below for each site.

Speakers: Will include experts from the Department of Health, academic institutions, legal experts and personnel from healthcare facilities that have achieved near universal (>90%) vaccination
